WHAT IS CALFRESH?

CalFresh, (formerly called 'food stamps"), is a food benefit program in the state of California that you can use to buy groceries with. Receiving CalFresh will not affect your existing financial aid and you don't need your parents tax returns to apply!

HOW MUCH DO COLLEGE STUDENTS GET?

Exactly how much money you will get depends on your income and how many people you buy food for.

HOW CAN I USE MY BENEFITS IF I AM APPROVED?

CalFresh benefits are deposited electronically each month onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. the EBT card works the same as an ATM card and is accepted at most grocery stores, convenience stores and even select online retailers like Amazon and Wal-Mart!

Many Sonoma County Farmers Markets also accept EBT and even offer matching programs to stretch your food benefit. Search online for all the places that accept CalFresh cards here: California EBT Locator Map

WHO QUALIFIES?

Many students are eligible for CalFresh- It's worth a try, just apply! Make sure to create an account first in case you need more time to finish applying later (including uploading your documents). You can also qualify for other public benefits on this application such as Calworks and medical insurance.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO APPLY?

Depending on your situation, it could take up to 30 minutes to apply. If you are approved, with no County delays, you can receive benefits within 30 days.
